Recently, China's domestic natural plant weaving products industry has seen a new round of growth. Relying on renewable plant materials like bamboo, rattan, cattail, and reeds, handmade woven products such as grass weaving, rattan weaving, and bamboo weaving fit well with the global trend of low-carbon consumption and the ‘bamboo instead of plastic’ initiative. Orders for home decor, storage items, cultural and creative accessories, and outdoor picnic gear have been steadily increasing.
As public awareness of environmental protection rises, consumers are increasingly favoring naturally biodegradable products. Sales of small home items and decorative pieces made from plant weaving have seen noticeable growth in offline home goods stores, cultural and tourism markets, and cross-border e-commerce platforms. On the overseas front, many European and American countries continue to enforce plastic restriction policies, making buyers more inclined toward recyclable and natural materials. Demand for export products like rattan storage baskets, grass-woven bags, and bamboo lamps remains steadily growing.
Industry insiders say the market is shifting from low-end daily necessities toward mid-to-high-end cultural and creative products and custom home decor. However, the industry faces challenges: traditional handmade production has limited capacity, raw materials fluctuate seasonally, and some products still need better moisture and mold-resistant processing. Many production areas are upgrading their raw material pre-processing and introducing digital design to improve product consistency and aesthetic innovation, helping traditional woven products transition from rural side jobs to a standardized light industry.
